The Importance of an Engagement Session

Why is an engagement session so important?

Having an engagement session with your Kramer Events Photographer prior to your wedding can make a big difference on your special day, and its something we highly recommend, here is why:

  • It provides you with the perfect opportunity to get to know your photographer in a fun, stress-free environment and get comfortable with being in front of their lens. Engagement sessions are relaxed and playful so you and your partner get a chance to have your photos taken without the pressure of a timeline and expectations. You can explore poses, be silly, and share lots of laughs while you get a feel for how your photographer works. You have the opportunity to share with them any concerns or preferences you have when it comes to your photo being taken; and most importantly you begin to form a friendship with your photographer, who will be with you for the entirety of your wedding day. Building this trust ahead of time will allow you to truly relax on your big day and know that your photographer has got you covered!

  • Not only does an engagement session provide a good opportunity for you to become well acquainted with your photographer, but it is also a great time to go over important wedding day information that your photographer will need to know in order to capture your special day most efficiently. For starters, your photographer will need to create their photography timeline for your wedding day and your input is paramount in this process; why not take the work out of it by creating it together over a coffee or delicious bite to eat? Your photographer has been behind the scenes on many weddings and is familiar with the way most venues and vendors work so they can provide you with valuable insight when it comes to planning your big day. They will also need to get a feel for what is most important to you when it comes to the documentation of your wedding. Do you want getting ready shots? A first look? Couple Photo’s at sunset? Family photos before the ceremony or after? Etc. Speaking of family photos, it is incredibly helpful for your photographer to have an understanding of your family dynamics on the day of the wedding so they can make this process as fun and stress-free as possible.

“One of the coolest aspects of being a wedding photographer is getting the chance to be immersed in the culture of another family and witness the unique bonds they share with one another. It is important to me that my clients feel like I truly care about them and their guests, because I do! Having an engagement session with my couple ahead of time gives me the opportunity to create a family “shot list” and ask important questions about their friends and family so I feel as though I know the people I’m working with on the day of the wedding. This also makes the process of capturing family photos, which can be grueling if not executed correctly, much easier and even fun! People loosen up when you speak to them by name and show a genuine interest in who they are, and thats what I strive for with every wedding I shoot.” – Nawal Kassir

  • Finally, an engagement shoot is an awesome excuse to get out and have fun with your fiancé while creating memories that will last a lifetime. As we’ve discussed in the past, the Central Coast is well known for its diversity in wildlife landscapes and beautiful cities; the possibilities are endless when it comes to planning an engagement shoot that will perfectly capture the lifestyle you and your partner enjoy together. Whether it be a casual stroll down the beach, a romantic trek into the forest, or a picnic amongst a field of flowers, you and your photographer can plan something that will suit your style perfectly. These photos not only become a cherished keepsake but can serve as unique and creative decor on the day of your wedding. Canvas prints and guestbooks come to mind, but the creative possibilities are endless.

Photographing a wedding is more than a job, it is a very meaningful service; capturing memories that will mean the world to our clients for years to come. We want to be fully engaged in the process of getting to know our couples and their unique circumstances. An engagement session helps our photographers connect the dots, allowing them to capture your love story authentically in its entirety.

Central Coast Engagements | Heather and Grady

Real Engagement | Heather and Grady

The Central Coast never dissapoints when it comes to romantic adventure, so it is no wonder our recent couple, Heather and Grady travelled all the way from Chicago to shoot their engagement photos with Justin Jacobs of Kramer Events Photography. Their Destination Wedding is set for September 29th, 2018 at the lovely Central Coast Wedding Venue, Cass Winery in Paso Robles.

After sitting with Grady and Heather for literally 2 minutes, I knew this couple was the real deal; so genuine, so fun, so confident, and so much in love.  They were themselves and so comfortable together.  In every location they just had fun and it was so easy to capture them just being them, which is exactly what an engagement session is all about.  – Justin Jacobs, Photographer

We are thrilled to be a part of Heather and Grady’s story and cant wait to capture more of their love at their wedding this fall!

A Christmas Love Story Fit for Disney

A Christmas Love Story Fit for Disney

Imagine this; it’s Christmas morning and all the usual joy and excitement are in the air as you give and receive gifts surrounded by the ones you love. You’re handed a neatly wrapped package from someone very special to you. Curious as to what this surprise could be, you slowly peel away the wrapping paper to reveal an Amazon box, you open the box and find…a matching set of mickey mouse ears? “Bride and Groom” they read. Stunned and confused you glance up and sitting in front of you is the man that you love, down on one knee and extending a ring. “No way!” Suddenly, Christmas takes on a whole new meaning. “Yes, of course, I will marry you!”

For one lucky girl, this Christmas story became a reality and the lucky guy who proposed to her? Our very own Warehouse Manager and Lead Tech, Paul Escalera! Paul is a huge part of the Kramer team and works diligently to ensure the warehouse is organized and high functioning – no easy feat when you’re talking about thousands of pieces of equipment. We couldn’t be more excited for him and his new fiancé Katie, and the Mickey Mouse ears? Well, they turned out to be a huge piece of the puzzle.

Paul and Katie met in 2014 working together at Disneyland. Their journey of love began on July 27th in Tomorrowland; after some time, they transferred together to Adventureland, but they had no idea that their greatest adventure together was yet to come! After living and working for a year in Anaheim, they moved to San Luis Obispo to be closer to Katie’s hometown of Pismo Beach, and the rest is history! A love story fit for a Disney movie! Congratulations Paul and Katie!

Engagement Shoot: Chelsea and Stefan’s Story

Chelsea and Stefan chose the beautiful Avila Beach as the set for their engagement shoot with our very own Central Coast wedding photographer, Justin Jacobs. Fast forward to October 2017, the month of their wedding, and you’ll find Chelsea walking down the aisle at See Canyon Fruit Ranch  – one of the most romantic Central Coast wedding venues in the San Luis Obispo area.

How did you two meet?

We met in San Luis Obispo, California March 2014, at a mutual friend’s house. We dated for a year and moved to South Carolina and lived there for two years before moving back to the central coast.

What is the most memorable date you guys have been on since being together?

Chelsea: Our most memorable date we have had together has got to be our first date when we went to Eureka Burger. We didn’t know a thing about each other and it was a lot of fun laughing and talking so effortlessly.

Stefan: Our first date was our most memorable date when we ate at Eureka Burger.

How did you know Chelsea/Stefan was “The One?”

Chelsea: I knew Stefan was the one when we went to Six Flags together after a few months of dating and rode every single rollercoaster twice, until we got sick. We were driving back from LA (3 hour drive) and I realized this guy was the most genuine person I’d ever met.

Stefan: I knew she was the one when we I could look her in the eyes and not shy away. She not only accepted my quirky personality traits but started to embrace them.

Any piece of advice you can give to engaged couples?

Always talk. Keep communication alive and well. Never go to bed angry and always try for a better life! That’s what it’s all about.

Whether your photoshoot takes you to a rustic vineyard in Paso Robles or shoots you out to a remote nook in Edna Valley – ask any Central Coast wedding photographer and they will tell you the possibilities are endless. The Central Coast wedding venues that scatter the area are some of the most breathtaking venues you will find in California. I think it’s safe to say that your photos will be leaving you with more than just 1,000 words!
