Chelsea & Courey | Santa Margarita Ranch

Gale force winds, flash floods, and chilly temperatures were on tap for this very special couple’s day. Chelsea and Courey just smiled, laughed, and loved through it- they were our ray of sunshine! Congratulations to a beautiful couple, and enjoy these teaser shots from yesterday’s wedding at Santa Margarita Ranch.

Rustic sophistication in the heart of Wine Country

Nestled in the little town of Santa Margarita, sits one of the longest continually operating cattle ranches in California- and our featured venue this week, Santa Margarita Ranch. The ranch has become a favorite venue among couples seeking a rustic yet sophisticated style for their wedding. The 15,000 acre property located just 15 minutes from San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles; features open space, vineyards, garden spaces, a barn, and an original Disneyland steam train!

The Santa Margarita Ranch is a special venue for our coordinators, Bri and Melissa, which is why we chose this very special place as our Featured Venue of the Week! Both coordinators rave about the incredibly accommodating and helpful venue staff, versatility of the space for events from rehearsal dinners to very large weddings and corporate events, and the uniqueness of the ranch’s steam train- a huge hit for wedding photos, and entertaining guests.

Bri’s favorite part of the venue is the iconic barn and the way the sun shines through the expansive doors at the golden hour, providing a natural backdrop for amazing photos. Melissa loves the plethora of photo back drops provided by the venue- there is no shortage of photo inspiration at the ranch! Both caution cake placement in the barn, as there is a resident barn owl that adds to the charm of the historic space!

Santa Margarita Ranch can accommodate up to 1000 guests; and is perfect for weddings, events, corporate parties, and rehearsal dinners.

Real Wedding Stories: Elisa and Ryan, Santa Margarita Ranch

Rustic ranch wedding on a working cattle ranch

The Romance

Elisa and Ryan were two California-bred employees of Royal Caribbean International when they met halfway around the world on February 3, 2009. Elisa, a dancer and aerialist with the cruise ship’s production met Ryan, a lighting technician for the production department in a meeting for new crew members assigned to the ship. They soon found themselves forming a close friendship and that led to love on the high seas. Three years later Ryan proposed to Elisa, and their life long adventure began!

Their venue selection

Elisa and Ryan may have fallen in love on the other side of the world, but, they grew up just a few hours from each other in California; Elisa hails from Santa Maria, California, and Ryan, from Dinuba, California. Both wanted a Central Coast wedding venue that was not only close to their respective hometowns, but reflected their sense of style. They chose the historic Santa Margarita Ranch, just 45 minutes north of Santa Maria, because of it’s rustic appeal and outdoors focus.

How did they make their wedding unique?

It was very important to Elisa and Ryan to create an event that highlighted their personal style, and their love for family and friends (which included their cruise ship family!). They did not want to do anything that would be an expected tradition. We loved their cocktail and popcorn hour in the garden, and that the Groom utilized his background and worked with us to design the perfect lighting scheme for their reception in the historic barn.

The Day

With rustic sophistication and  meaningful details as their style inspiration, Elisa and Ryan used the outdoor locations around the ranch and the barn to it’s full advantage. We loved their choice of the massive oak tree in the garden as their ceremony back drop. For their reception personal touches like gifts of home made soaps, and their own floral design completed their vision to a “t”.

Their advice for future couples?

“Be patient, and take it one step at a time”. Congratulations Elisa and Ryan!

ustin and Caryn were wonderful to say the least! It was a beautiful Central Coast day, the bride and her bridal party prepped in the master bedroom of the Estate House at Apple Creek Ranch while the groom got ready just across the way in the Guest House. The ceremony took place on the back patio of the main estate, showcasing the beautiful simplicity of green and neutral accents, largely attributed to the bride and her mother. Along with the help of the groom, they created almost all the details of the wedding, from centerpieces to table numbers, giving everything a personal touch!

Jennifer and Vincent’s Santa Margarita Ranch Reception

We had a blast lighting up and DJing Jennifer and Vincent’s rocking wedding at Santa Margarita Ranch in Santa Margarita, Ca! This group really raised the roof in the barn and showed off some pretty sweet dancing skills. We like to attribute this to our super DJ skills but we don’t think they would have had the energy to party rock so hard if not for the amazing dinner provided by Mama’s Meatball. We wish Jennifer and Vincent a long and happy marriage!

Real Wedding: Carley & Matt

The legit wedding blogosphere knows the importance of working with professionals. Lucky for us, our Brides and Grooms are also legit. Carley and Matt really put their trust in some of our favorite wedding vendors for their one-of-a-kind ceremony and reception held at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. The flowers, the decor, the food were all AMAZING

We got some DJ advice from the couple after their wedding…

“Hire a wedding coordinator and hire a PROFESSIONAL DJ. Do not have your friend “who has a lot of music and does house parties” DJ your wedding. You wedding DJ is so much more than someone who plays music. They help keep the time of the whole day, they are your voice/emcee of your wedding and they must have a knack for reading the crowd! Kramer Events DJ’d our reception. I have also worked with Kramer many times and I absolutely love them. Beau and Melissa are experienced, professional and just all around really fun, energetic people. They both take great pride in what they do and have built an amazing business. They are great people to consult throughout the planning process and will make your life so much easier. They also have an amazing special event lighting business that includes gobos, uplighting and just about anything you can imagine. Their lighting services truly transformed our venue. I am a huge believer in event lighting and think it is a must for every wedding!”
